The gifts of proper posture are many. Energy, focus, relaxation, and balance are a few. Proper physical posture allows the mind and heart to feel at home in the body temple. It opens the connection to nadis, energetic channels, to be accessed. A proper seat is the foundation of a meditation practice. It brings us towards the possibility of transcendence and into the sacred.
We will look at the elements of proper physical posture by breaking down all of the elements of what it takes to take an artful seat. Focusing on shoulders, where they belong, lengthening the side body and proper lifting of the pelvis we will discover the peaceful self. Exploring the balance of effort and ease, stirha sukham, we will transpose the body on a geometric grid for clarity and transcendence.
This will be a hatha vinyasa class focused on the sacred alignment of sitting. We will incorporate bandha, mudra, pranayama and mantra. We will study sukhasana, sidhasana and possible padmasana. Likely Padmasana will be its own class.
We recommend you don’t eat a few hours before the class. Light fruit is ok if needed. Tea is preferred.
