"The Mind"
Maestro Manuel will be offering a unique perspective on this timeless subject of the Mind. The study of the mind is a lifetime process. In this talk we will explore how we can work with our own minds to transform our consciousness. We will look at the mind of the matrix, or the collective consciousness and how this influences us. How do we get out of the negative mindset and overcome the patterning that keeps us in a negative place? How do we incorporate mind-fullness into our lives and into our thought processes? How does the mind influence our lives and how can we begin to have a conscious relationship with our minds? How can shamanic and transcendental practices work with and benefit the mind? How can we connect to the mind through disciplines, ceremony and ritual? In order to better understand ourselves, we will be guided on a journey of self-discovery through this open talk, to go deeper into our own minds, to look at ourselves through new understanding and reach for new levels of consciousness.
Ehren Hanson
Ehren Hanson began learning tabla when he was 15 years old under Misha Masud of New York City. In 2000, he was accepted as a disciple by the great Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and has developed into an exciting performer and a dynamic teacher. Ehren then went on to teach rhythm as an assistant professor at Bard College in 2002 and in 2005 he received the prestigious Senior Performing Arts Fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies. He has had the honor of accompanying great musicians such as Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee, Pandit Subrata Roy Chaudhuri, Steve Gorn, and others. In 2012, The Time of India described his tabla solo performance as "enthralling." Ehren currently lives in New York where he is an active performer and teacher. He is also the director of the Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla.
Eric Fraser
Eric Fraser (www.ericfraser.com) is an accomplished bansuri flute player based in Brooklyn, New York (and Kolkata, India, where he learns from his guru, Pandit Gopal Roy). Eric is an exponent of a unique vocal style of North-Indian flute playing, and has performed to mesmerized audiences in America and India, including radio performances (NPR morning edition & WKCR new york) Known for it’s purity and antiquity, this "gayaki" or vocal style vividly conjures an old world India. After 7 years of preparation, Eric became a 2011 Fulbright senior scholar for Indian music. He has been learning intensively in the guru/sishya parampara tradition under the training of his guru Pt. Gopal Roy since 2003. With playing that rings with authenticity, subtlety, and lilting tone, Eric takes listeners on a journey to a timeless musical world. Eric is a 2011 Fulbright senior research scholar for Indian music, and has a diverse background playing for Indian classical dance, as well as in projects ranging from Jazz, World, Indie and more. Aside from playing Indian classical flute, Eric is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and a music therapist (MA, MT-BC) working with children.
Abhik Mukherjee
He was initiated to sitar at the age of six by his father Sri Tarit Kumar Mukherjee. Simultaneously he was taught by Sri Bimal Chatterjee, a leading disciple of Pandit Kashinath Mukherjee-a doyen of Imdadkhani-Etawah gharana. Abhik remained under his affectionate guidance till the age of sixteen when finally he was taken to Pandit Kashinath Mukherjee. Panditji (a leading disciple of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Amir Khan) took Abhik under his wings and soon Abhik blossomed into an artist who is looked upon as one of the torch-bearer of the Imdadkhani-Etawah gharana among the younger generation. He is also undergoing extensive training from Pandit Arvind Parikhji who is an internationally reputed artist and musicologist and senior-most disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan.
