Sacred Art Tour 2018 of Drepung Gomang Monastery
We welcome the Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery for the Sacred Art Tour of 2018 to Brooklyn, NY from July 31 – August 5.
During their visit, the monks will be sharing ancient Tibetan traditions, culture and wisdom through various workshops, meditations, and dharma talks. They will be creating a beautiful sand mandala that purifies the creators and generates compassion in the viewer’s hearts. The monks bring teachings of ancient ways and beliefs that do, even now, create the possibility of global peace, non-violent conflict resolution, compassion, and wisdom. The tour is supported 100% by a network of volunteers who invite these scholars and artisan Buddhist Monks to share with their community their rare, ancient, culturally rich and diverse Tibetan art, customs and spiritual wisdom.
Their visit is in honor of the life, dedicated service and birthday of the Elder Brother, Sat Guru Dr. Jose Manuel Estrada, a teacher in the lineage of Maestro Manuel Rufino, recognized elder in the Taino tradition and visionary guiding the Golden Drum and Sacred Arts Research Foundation.
The space will be open to the public each day to experience the creation of the mandala. Pre-registration is encouraged for evening workshops because space is limited. You can pre-register and reserve your space for evening workshops by visiting our Featured Events page and clicking on the workshop(s) you would like to attend. You can also find the links below.
All events are by donation. Beautiful merchandise will be available for sale throughout the visit. Most of the items are hand-made including jewelry, clothing, artwork, memorabilia as well as traditional Tibetan instruments such as solid brass singing bowls. All proceeds will support the work of the Drepung Gomang Monastery in Southern India where thousands of Tibetan refugees are supported. You can also make a donation to the Monastery by clicking the DONATE button below.
